Colocation pricing, as published
Most colocation providers will not put a price on their website. Some do. This sheet collects every published retail price we could verify, in the operator's own currency with the date we checked it, next to the wholesale per-kW ranges that large deployments are quoted against.
Short answer
In our published data a single 1U slot in the US costs USD 59 to 100 a month and a full US cabinet USD 608 to 2,332. Measured per kW, published US cabinet prices run USD 212–472. Wholesale requirements of a few hundred kW are quoted per kW: CBRE's asking ranges run from USD 130 (São Paulo) to USD 475 (Singapore) per kW per month.

Published retail prices: 1U slots, racks, cages and per-kW
Every published price in one table: single-U slots, quarter, half and full racks, cages and the few providers that sell by the kilowatt. Prices are monthly list prices in the currency the operator publishes. The per kW column divides the price by the kilowatts the operator states; where a card gives only amps or kVA we leave it blank rather than guess a voltage. Filter by product type, city, currency or metered energy, or search for an operator.

Rate cards that cover three or more cities with one price list show the first three cities. Taxes are excluded unless the note says otherwise. A missing operator means it does not publish prices, not that it is cheaper or dearer. Metered energy marks prices where electricity is billed per kWh on top, so the per-kW figure is not all-in.

1U and per-U colocation prices
Single-server and small multi-U slots, 35 of the prices above, are the product most people mean by "server colocation". Power at this size is a fraction of a kilowatt, so the per-kW figure looks high: you are mostly paying for the slot, the network port and the IP addresses. Show only per-U slots in the table, or compare full racks on their own.
Wholesale colocation: price per kW by market
Wholesale colocation is leased by committed IT load, quoted in US dollars per kW per month, with energy metered on top. These are asking ranges reported by CBRE for the period H2 2025 – Q2 2026; the requirement size each figure describes is in the note column.

Methodology
- What counts: a price an operator publishes on its own website for a colocation product, recorded with the URL and the date we checked it. Quotes, broker estimates and forum posts are excluded.
- Currency: every price stays in the currency the operator publishes. We do not convert, because a converted number would carry a rate and a date the operator never stated.
- Derived per kW: price ÷ the kilowatts the operator states. Amps, kVA, ranges ("2–5 kW") and approximations ("~2 kW") are not converted.
- Wholesale: CBRE asking rents in USD per kW per month, by requirement tier as CBRE reports it. Figures in other currencies or from older reports are listed separately, not mixed in.
- Freshness: retail cards checked between 26 Sept 2026 and 1 Oct 2026; wholesale data as of 1 Oct 2026. Full detail on the methodology page; retail data as CSV or JSON, wholesale as CSV.
How colocation pricing works
A colocation bill has three parts that matter: power, space and connectivity. Rate cards bundle them in different ways, which is why two prices for "a full rack" can differ by a factor of four and both be fair.
Amps versus kW
Providers in the US often describe power as a circuit: 20 A at 120 V, 30 A at 208 V. Volts times amps gives the circuit's rating in volt-amperes. What you can actually draw continuously is less. Electrical codes such as the US National Electrical Code size branch circuits so that continuous load stays at 80% of the breaker rating, and the published cards in our data follow that rule to the decimal:
| Operator | Circuit as published | V × A | kW published | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ColoCrossing | 20 A / 120 V | 2.4kVA | 1.92kW | 80% |
| ColoCrossing | 80 A / 120 V | 9.6kVA | 7.68kW | 80% |
| Psychz Networks | 20 A / 120 V | 2.4kVA | 1.92kW | 80% |
| Psychz Networks | 30 A / 120 V | 3.6kVA | 2.88kW | 80% |
| Psychz Networks | 20 A / 208 V | 4.16kVA | 3.33kW | 80% |
| Psychz Networks | 30 A / 208 V | 6.24kVA | 4.99kW | 80% |
So when a quote says "30 A", ask for the usable kW and whether the figure is per feed. Redundant A+B feeds double the circuits but not the power you may draw: each feed has to carry the full load if the other fails. Outside North America, voltage changes the arithmetic. Tokyo rate cards are written on 100 V circuits, where 10 A is 1 kVA, while other cards in our data, from Melbourne to Izmir and Montreal, state 230–240 V.
Committed versus metered power
Some providers include power in the monthly fee up to the allocation (all-in). Others charge a space-and-capacity fee and meter the energy you actually use. In our data HOSTKEY in Amsterdam meters electricity at EUR 0.50 per kWh on top of its rack fee, HA Hosting in Sheffield includes 84 kWh a month and charges GBP 0.40 per kWh above it, and MIRhosting sells all-in per kW. Wholesale is committed: CBRE's figures cover the reserved capacity and exclude the metered energy, which the tenant pays on top. Metered billing rewards racks that run well below their allocation; all-in billing rewards racks that run close to it.
Cross-connects
A cross-connect is a physical cable from your rack to another customer, a carrier or a cloud on-ramp in the same building. It is billed monthly per connection, usually with a one-time install fee. Not one operator in our dataset publishes a cross-connect price, so it is the line most likely to surprise you. Ask for the monthly and one-time charge per cross-connect, and whether fibre and copper differ.
Setup fees
14 published prices carry a setup fee, 9 state that setup is free and 44 do not say. Where a fee exists it ranges from a fraction of a month to more than two months of service:

Term discounts
No operator in our dataset publishes a discount schedule for one-, three- or five-year terms. What the cards do show is that term is already priced in. Psychz's cheapest Dallas product is a half cabinet that requires a one-year term. Exabytes Singapore lists a 1U at SGD 172.80 on annual billing against SGD 191.84 billed monthly, about 10% less. Dominios Chile gives one month free on annual payment. SiteHost's Auckland rack prices assume a 36-month term. Treat any longer term as something to negotiate against a written number, not a standard percentage.
Bandwidth and IPs
Small-footprint cards bundle a port, a traffic allowance and a few IP addresses, which is a large part of what a 1U price buys. Larger cards increasingly include a 1 or 10 Gbps port with "unmetered" or fair-use traffic. Compare like with like: a per-kW figure means little if one offer includes unlimited transfer and the other 100 Mbps.

Inputs — yours
The starting values (10 kW, 5 kW per rack, Dallas, 36 months) are just an example to change. Results are in US dollars because the published USD rate cards are the only retail set large enough to give a range; we do not convert other currencies.

Assumptions behind these numbers
- Retail: your deployment is priced at the same rate per kW as the published cabinets. Those prices bundle space, power and some bandwidth.
- Wholesale: your load is billed per committed kW like the CBRE requirement tier shown. CBRE figures exclude metered energy, which is billed on top and is not estimated here.
- No term discount: none of the published cards in our data states one, so none is applied.
- Cross-connects, remote hands, IP transit above what cards include and taxes are not included unless you enter them.

Colocation pricing questions
How much does colocation cost per month?
In our published data a single 1U slot in the US costs USD 59 to 100 a month and a full US cabinet USD 608 to 2,332. Measured per kW, published US cabinet prices run USD 212–472. Wholesale requirements of a few hundred kW are quoted per kW: CBRE's asking ranges run from USD 130 (São Paulo) to USD 475 (Singapore) per kW per month.
Is colocation priced per rack or per kW?
Both appear on rate cards, but power drives the price. One Ashburn operator charges almost exactly the same amount per kW across four full-cabinet sizes, and a Bangkok card charges the same amount per amp from a quarter rack to a full rack. Wholesale deals are quoted purely per committed kW.
Why is colocation pricing so hard to find?
Most operators quote individually because power density, term, location and network needs change the price. Only a minority publish rate cards: our dataset holds 67 published prices from 37 operators, mostly smaller providers. Large operators generally do not publish retail prices.
What is usually not included in a colocation price?
Cross-connects, extra power above the allocation, metered energy where billing is metered, remote hands, IP transit beyond the included amount, setup fees and taxes. None of the operators in our dataset publishes a cross-connect price, so ask for it explicitly.
