Tokyo colocation pricing
Tokyo's published retail prices are written in volts and amps on 100 V circuits, which means an amp buys about half the power it would on the 208–240 V circuits in most other rate cards we track.

Reading a 100 V rate card
GMO Cloud's housing service lists rack space only for 1U with 100 V / 1.5 A at JPY 11,000 a month and no setup. A quarter rack of 8U with 100 V / 10 A costs JPY 60,500 plus JPY 27,500 setup. Its notes add a 17U half rack with 100 V / 20 A at JPY 118,800 (setup JPY 55,000) and a 38U full rack at JPY 198,000 (setup JPY 110,000), with no power figure given for the full rack.
Volts times amps gives apparent power: 1 kVA for the quarter rack and 2 kVA for the half. That is JPY 60,500 and JPY 59,400 per kVA, essentially flat. Setup runs from about 45% of a month's fee on the quarter and half racks to 56% on the full rack. Network is a separate line: the same 1U with a shared 100 Mbps connection costs JPY 27,500, two and a half times the rack-only price.
CBRE's Global Data Center Trends 2026 reports a Tokyo average of USD 280 per kW per month and describes rents as stable year on year.

Buying in Tokyo
- Convert every quote to kVA or kW before comparing; 10 A at 100 V is 1 kVA, not the 2 kVA it would be at 200 V.
- Ask whether 200 V feeds are available. Dense hardware rarely fits a 100 V allocation.
- Budget setup at roughly half a month's fee or more on published cards.
- Price the network line separately from rack space; on the published card it more than doubles the 1U cost.
